In recent years sneaker culture has transcended beyond strictly streetwear. Sneakers have entered into the world of luxury not only in price but in presentation and status. From the normalization of pairing suiting with sneakers to being styled with couture gowns for editorial magazine covers. I wanted to blend the two by creating dynamic pieces associated with luxury and combining them with sneaker elements.
The dress is made entirely out of shoelaces, each one hand dyed and strategically placed to reimagine the pieces that hold the shoe together. The piece consists of a combination of old and new laces. The old laces show how the dirt and scuffs from use can hold memory and sentiment as well as the long history of sneaker culture before the mainstream. In contrast the new laces represent the new polished view of sneakers as an investment and a piece of art that you wouldn't dare get dirt on.
